LearnDash group sales comparison

Team Course Sales for LearnDash vs. Uncanny Groups

Selling LearnDash training to businesses, schools, and other teams requires more than a standard individual-course checkout. Buyers need to purchase multiple seats, assign learners, follow their team’s progress, and sometimes return later to add more people or courses.

Two plugins address this need in different ways: Team Course Sales for LearnDash and Uncanny Groups for LearnDash. Both extend LearnDash Groups and integrate with WooCommerce, but they are designed for different levels of operational complexity.

Choose Team Course Sales

For a focused WooCommerce-first way to sell course seats, provision Groups automatically, and let purchasers manage trainees.

Choose Uncanny Groups

For broader front-end group administration, advanced reporting, hierarchies, CSV workflows, and subscription-based group sales.

Focused team sales vs. a broader group platform

Team Course Sales is built around a straightforward commercial workflow. Configure an existing WooCommerce product for team sales, let the customer select a quantity of seats, and complete checkout normally. The completed order provisions a native LearnDash Group and seat pool, while the purchaser becomes the Group Leader.

From the front-end Group Manager Dashboard, that purchaser can assign trainees, send reminders, and follow progress across every linked course. The plugin supports WooCommerce Simple products and LearnDash Course products, allowing a site to offer individual and team purchasing from the same product.

Pro and Agency licences also add team-only mode. This removes the individual purchase path and enforces group-only purchasing across product, cart, and direct add-to-cart routes.

Uncanny Groups takes a wider approach. Group Leaders can add, invite, edit, and remove users from the front end, distribute enrollment keys, import users by CSV, send emails, access reports, manage learner progress, and work with group hierarchies. It also supports pre-configured group licences, buyer-configured licences, and recurring access through WooCommerce Subscriptions.

Why Team Course Sales may be the better fit

Many training businesses do not need a complete learning-management layer for large organizations. Their essential requirement is to sell training seats to a manager, let that buyer assign staff, and provide a clear view of whether each person has completed the required course.

That is where Team Course Sales is deliberately narrower. Each course in a licence appears independently in the dashboard, including assigned, in-progress, and completed states, LearnDash access expiry, and the correct certificate link where a certificate is eligible. This is particularly useful for compliance, professional development, and certificate-based learning.

The plugin also provides per-product minimum and maximum seat quantities, an unlimited maximum where appropriate, and up to ten fixed-amount or percentage discount tiers. Those controls allow a store to handle small team purchases and larger volume sales without requiring a separate pricing extension.

The free version supports up to three enabled single-course team-sale products. Pro expands this to unlimited products, multi-course bundles, and team-only sales for one production site. Agency supports up to ten production sites. See the Team Course Sales documentation for current plan and setup details.

Compatibility note: Team Course Sales is built for WordPress 7, LearnDash 5.1.8 or later, WooCommerce 8 or later, PHP 8.1 or later, and Classic Cart and Checkout. Sites using LearnDash 4 on WordPress 6.7–6.9.x should use Group License Manager for LearnDash 4. It includes the core WooCommerce group-sales workflow, seat management, discount tiers, bundles, and front-end Group Leader dashboard, but not Team Course Sales’ newer team-only product mode. It is a separate legacy-platform edition, not an in-place upgrade to LearnDash 5 or WordPress 7.

When Uncanny Groups is the stronger choice

Uncanny Groups is the more appropriate option when group management itself is a major part of the product. An enterprise training provider may need parent and child groups, Group Leaders who import large learner rosters by CSV, enrollment-key distribution, front-end grading of essays and assignments, or detailed reporting across several layers of an organization.

It is also a stronger fit for sites selling recurring team access through WooCommerce Subscriptions. Its group-licence structure supports fixed packages, configurable buyer-built licences, per-seat pricing, minimum and maximum quantities, and subscription products.

That wider capability comes with a more involved configuration model. For a site that only needs to sell a course to a company and let a manager allocate ten seats, the additional product types, settings, and reporting options may be more than necessary.

Pricing and long-term ownership

Cost should be considered alongside scope, not in isolation. Team Course Sales includes a free tier and offers annual Pro and Agency licences for sites that need unlimited products, bundles, or team-only sales. Licences are purchased one year at a time rather than renewing automatically.

Uncanny Groups costs more, but its higher price reflects a much broader set of group-management, reporting, hierarchy, and subscription capabilities. If a project genuinely needs those features, choosing a less expensive plugin and then building workarounds may not be a saving.

Always check current pricing, renewal terms, compatibility requirements, and support policies before purchasing. Product pricing and feature scope can change.

Which LearnDash group plugin should you choose?

Team Course Sales for LearnDash is the practical choice for a modern LearnDash 5 site that wants to sell individual courses and managed team seats through familiar WooCommerce products. It is particularly well suited to focused course catalogues, compliance training, certificate-based learning, and stores that need clear team-only purchasing rules.

Uncanny Groups is better suited to organizations needing a complete front-end group-management toolkit with deeper reporting, hierarchical structures, bulk user workflows, and subscription support.

Start with the business workflow, not the plugin name. If your buyer needs to purchase seats, assign learners, and monitor completion, Team Course Sales for LearnDash provides a lean, purpose-built route. If Group Leaders need to run complex learning organizations from the front end, Uncanny Groups remains the more expansive platform.
